"Raison d’Être" is an unpublished corpus born out of the necessity to create. These works were conceived during various stays in artist residencies. It is a workshop endeavor where the hand invents rather than the mind.
"The material has its secret life, and it's the artist who brings it to life. One must let oneself be carried away and swept along by it." This quote by Henri Bauchau perfectly summarizes "Raison d’Être," an invitation where lithography, carborundum engraving, and drawing-assemblage become one.
Approach:
I have spoken little about my process, preferring to manifest it rather than talk about it. Whenever a gesture emerges from my hands, it is and has always been instinctive. There is no reflection, and I have neither preconceived ideas nor pre-established plans or constructions. I follow this flow until the work no longer needs me.
